Undercurrents: Waves Walking on the Water

The Sea Art Festival 2025, organized by the Busan Biennial Organization Committee and held on Dadaepo Beach, bore the title “Undercurrents: Waves Walking on the Water.” Co-directed by Keumhwa Kim and Bernard Vienat, the exhibition explored the convergence between the site’s picturesque nature, its industrial history, and its ecological fragility. The curatorial approach aimed to reveal both the visible landscape and the underlying social, ecological, and political dynamics that shape coastal environments.

For (re)connecting.earth and art-werk, the Sea Art Festival represented a remarkable opportunity to foster exchange between Europe and Korea. It offered several artists who had previously created significant works for the (re)connecting.earth Biennial the chance to develop new pieces in a completely different context and to present their artistic instructions and this unique form of mediation on another continent. Thanks to the generous support of the Busan Biennial Organization Committee, this inspiring dialogue also enabled Korean artists to join the project, enriching it with new perspectives.
